Woodturning Demonstrations

I do Woodturning Demonstrations for Woodturning Clubs & other organisations, such as WIs. I usually use the the club lathe, if available, at Woodturning Clubs but in the case of other organisations I can bring a small demonstration lathe & all tools & equipment required.

Demonstrations

These are some of the Demonstrations I have done in the past but  I am willing to demonstrate other things on request

‘Rough around the Edges’  - A demonstration of Natural Edge Turning that could

include dishes, platters, natural edge vases & goblets etc.. Other features may

be included, such as lids for boxes with finials and captive rings.                                                                                 This could be for a full day or part day or evening. The number of items

demonstrated would depend on the time available.

Coffee Pot -  An Eastern style ornamental Coffee Pot with a spout, a lid and a handle. The handle

may not be completed because of equipment available.

This project can be demonstrated in approximately 2 – 3 hours. It could easily be combined with

a Novelty Money Box for a full day.

Novelty Money Box - A demonstration of making a novelty money box.

The demonstration would include hollowing out, making & fitting the top/head,

shaping the outside & cutting the slot.                                                                                                                           This demonstration is suitable for an evening but could easily be combined

with the Coffee Pot for a full day.

Wine Set - A demonstration that produces a ‘Wine Set’ including a Bottle Stopper, a Wine Coaster,

a Tray and a glass with a wooden stem & a glass top.

This demonstration usually lasts about ¾ of a full day. An evening demonstration would be quite

feasible without the tray. A full day could be ‘topped up’ with another small project.

‘Turning for Furniture’ - This demonstration shows how to make different parts of

furniture  including legs & spindles used on chairs & tables.

I have a ‘Router Lathe’ which I can demonstrate, which produces  spirals, flutes

and can be used to cut dovetails for Tripod tables. If a number of identical items                                                        are to be made for a piece of furniture I will usually only make 1 or 2 during

demonstration. This   would be suitable for a full day demonstration, although a

shortened version would be fine for an evening.

I have a ‘Power Point Presentation that shows how & why I made a Reproduction

                          Chair.

Microwave Drying - I demonstrate the principles of Microwave drying of timber. I would bring a Microwave cooker along, part turn a bowl and do some ‘cooking’ while demonstrating another project. I take weight & moisture readings as we go along. This, of course, takes time out of the other project and can affect the amount that gets completed during  the session.

Other Demonstrations - I also demonstrate other items including Wine Bottle Holders, Quaiches, Boxes, Scoops, Goblets, Vases, Platters, Bowls & even a Set of Scales.

                                                                                                                                         March 2024
